Some facts that most people don’t know about Ranking their sites in the Search Engines:

1 – Any Page that you make and publish creates Google Page Rank that is greater than 0. This violates the 1st Law of Thermodynamics “Matter (Page Rank) is neither created nor destroyed”. Google doesn’t care. Every time you publish a web page and it gets crawled, it gets assigned Page Rank just for existing.
That means that the more legitimate, non-duplicate pages you have on your site, the more you can affect your OWN rankings with internal links!

2 – Duplicate Content “Off-site” is practically irrelevant.
“On-site” Duplicate Content will kill your rankings.

3 – Your Web Page Template (Navigation Links, Footer Content, Side Bar Content) counts in the Duplicate Content calculation. That means if your Web Page Template’s content has 200 words, and the rest of the content on your page is 50 words, you might have Duplicate content issues.

4 – The Google Cache Date of any web page can indicate the relative power of the links on that page.
The more current (Fresher) Google’s Cache date of a web page is, the more likely that the links on that page are getting counted. If the page cache is constantly getting updated, that’s a pretty strong sign that the links are getting counted MORE than a page where the cache date is old.

Algorithm

An algorithm is a set of finite, ordered steps for solving a mathematical problem. Each Search Engine uses a proprietary algorithm set to calculate the relevance of its indexed web pages to your particular Query. Search engine algorithms are closely guarded in order to prevent exploitation of algorithmic results.
Click Fraud is the illegal practice of manipulating Cost-Per-Click (CPC) or Pay-Per-Click (PPC) revenue sharing agreements. There are numerous types of click fraud, but in a typical scenario the webmaster of a site that earns money from each click of the advertising links it publishes pays individuals a small fee to click those links. Companies thus pay for advertising to clients who had no intention of buying from them. Some companies have filed class action lawsuits alleging that ad publishers such as Google and Yahoo! have failed to aggressively confront click fraud because they benefit from increased CPC revenue.

Click-Through

Click-through refers to a single instance of a user clicking on an advertising link or site listing and moving to a Landing Page. A higher Click-Through Rate (CTR) is one of the primary goals of Search Engine Optimization.

Click-Through Rate (CTR)

Cloaking

Cloaking is the presentation of alternative pages to a search engine Spider so that it will record different content for a URL than what a human browser would see. Cloaking is typically done to achieve a higher search engine position or to trick users into visiting a site. In such cases cloaking is considered to be Black Hat SEO and the offending URL could be Blacklisted. However, cloaking is sometimes used to deliver personalized content based on a browser’s IP address and/or user-agent HTTP header. Such cloaking should only be practiced with a search engine’s knowledge or it could be construed as black hat cloaking.

Contextual Link Inventory (CLI)

Conversion Rate

Conversion rate is the next step up from Click-Through Rate. It’s the percentage of all site visitors who “convert” (make a purchase, register, request information, etc.). However, the decision to include a site and its directory rank or categorization is determined by directory editors rather than an Algorithm.
Hit

Hit is a somewhat misleading measure of traffic to a web site. One hit is recorded for each file request in a web server’s access log.

A forty five page, up-to-date Google report has been leaked. It provides updated guidelines for Google’s Quality Raters.

Section four of the report, starting on page 32, discusses “spam”. Google says these are pages designed by webmasters to trick search engine robots and direct traffic to their websites.

Pages generally should NOT be marked Spam if they provide added value. Examples of content that provides added value include:

- Price comparison functionality.
- Product reviews.
- Recipes.
- Lyrics and quotes.
- Contact information, especially physical addresses and phone numbers.
- Coupon, discount and promotion codes.

Download the Google Quality Rater Guideline

The most interesting part starts at page 32.

Google gives several pages of examples of what it regards as Webspam. They include fake message boards, fake blogs, fake directories, parked domains, sneaky redirects, keyword stuffing, hidden text, and hidden links. Google explains how to switch off Javascript to see if it is being used to hide text. Horizontal lines or bars can also hide text. Google also knows that CSS can be used hide text.

Spam can also involve scraped content from such sources as Wikipedia, DMOZ and RSS news feeds, combined with PPC ads.

“The important thing to remember,” Google says, “is that if the scraped (copied) content is removed and all that remains is ads, it is Spam.”

Fortunately, if you’re sensible enough to be providing useful, original content, your pages should be regarded as OK.

Are you wondering if any of your pages qualify as “Webspam”? Here’s the test…

“If I remove the copied content, scraped news feeds, fake forums and blogs, thin affiliate links, parked/expired domain links, and all that is left are PPC ads and sponsored links, the page is probably spam.”

good luck!
